Intuition

If I could go back and give a piece of advice to the person I was at the start of my fertility journey, it would be this: sometimes the voice of your intuition won’t make sense, but trust it anyway.

When the blogs and the podcasts, your doctors and your family, the experts and the research, and seemingly everyone is telling you what to do and you feel torn in hundreds of directions, unable to see the forest for the trees because you’ve been told to count and tend to every individual needle you can see… step back.

Put down the book, turn off the podcast, shun google, and take a pause from everything you can manage. Sit. Sit in the quiet, in the solitude of your own heart, in the embrace of other living things who know how to hold you silently. Let the breeze whisper secrets in your ear, let the trees be your council. Let the river carry the weight on your shoulders downstream.

Remember that you are nature. You are not one organism, but billions. Constantly shifting and changing, creating and transforming, in ways that science has only begun to dream about. Why shouldn’t you trust that voice inside you? Not the one that sounds like someone else that echoes back to you what you “should” be doing, but the one that feels like the mountain – steady and solid and ancient.

Treat your intuition like a frightened, feathered thing. Build trust. Start slow. Show that you are listening to the pieces of wisdom it gives you, bit by bit, until it can believe you are safe. Only then will it sing.
